SM Entertainment has finally released the debut date for Red Velvet Irene & Seulgi's subunit and its happening on July 6.

Reveluvs, Red Velvet's loyal fans, have been awaiting the news since initial rumors leaked that the label was preparing to launch Red Velvet's first subunit in April. The news was finally confirmed on April 21 but details remained vague.

SM Entertainment took a month before releasing more information about the subunit and on May 26, they confirmed that the debut album will be entitled Red Velvet - Irene & Seulgi: MONSTER.

According to a report by Koreaboo, the debut date was originally pegged for June 15. However, SM Entertainment quickly backpedaled and postponed the date to July in an announcement on the Lysn fan club app. The company also did not give a detailed reason for the delay or specify a target date at the time. SM, however, admitted that they wanted to spend additional time working on the album so the release date had to be pushed back.

Fans remained optimistic and waited for news about Red Velvet- Irene & Seulgi. Their patience bore fruit when the label dropped teasers and the official logo of the subunit. The logo was a play on & symbol intersecting the S with an I, which stands for the initials of Irene and Seulgi.

The logo and the album cover for Red Velvet - Irene & Seulgi: MONSTER were also in black and white, adding a layer of sophistication and mystery to the material. The album will, reportedly, carry six tracks that will cover different genres, fanning the flames of excitement for fans who want to see the unique chemistry of Red Velvet's lead vocal Seulgi and lead dancer Irene on stage.

The demand for the creation of a subunit has been high among Red Velvet's fandom after watching them light up the stage for a previous performance.

On the lead up to their subunit debut, Irene and Seulgi have been busy interacting with fans on social media. They recently shared their cute interaction as they drew their own "monster." They also collaborated with Girls' Generation Hyoyeon for a fierce dance video for a special stage of their 2019 performance in SMTOWN Live in Tokyo.
