Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sent a letter to the national sports charity, StreetGames, in the United Kingdom to thank them for their work to distribute meals to young people amid the COVID-19 pandemic. But despite their good intention, the Sussexes were slammed for continuously using their H&M logo with a crown on top.
A lot of people questioned Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's move to continue using the crown logo after officially stepping down as senior royals in March. However, in the letter, the two never called themselves Duke and Duchess of Sussex or even used their HRH titles, signing their letter with a simple Harry and Meghan.
According to Mirror Online, one commenter suggested they needed to take the crown out of their logo. Another one added that as they left the monarchy, they should not be using the crown anymore.
However, some defended the couple, saying the former actress is still a royal, a duchess married to the son of a future king, so she could still use the coronet. Others also explained that Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson continued to use the crown logo in their letters despite being divorced from their respective former husbands, Prince Charles and Prince Andrew.
From the looks of it, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle intended to continue using the "Royal" trademark, although they did not want to be classified as royals anymore. So, why are they still using it?
Express reported that they are likely still allowed to use the logo as long as it does not have the word "Royal," like the name the Sussex Royal. Queen Elizabeth II herself stopped them from calling themselves as royals in public and other charitable endeavors after the summit held at Sandringham to talk about their transition.
Meanwhile, in the letter, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle showed their continuous support to their charity work in the U.K. despite moving to Los Angeles. They acknowledged the threat that the COVID-19 pandemic brought to everyone, saying it had been a "scary and testing time for so many people."
But despite the dangers, the others' goodwill continued to show, and the community spirit still managed to prevail. Although Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were afar, they still witnessed the coming together of the organizations that they championed and genuinely cared about.
The charity, alternatively, shared its excitement over the letter it received on its Twitter account. It thanked Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for their kind words and continued support for StreetGames. It also acknowledged other local organizations that were continuously working to support their communities in this time of crisis.
