The future remains gloomy for the movies that release dates have been pushed back because of the coronavirus pandemic. One of these is Mulan and predictions indicated Disney may further delay its release date.

Disney remains optimistic that the live-action remake of the 1998 movie will be released on its July 24 premiere date but things don't like that way to cinemas across the country. Movie theaters remain closed and it may not open soon as the country recorded another high number of new coronavirus cases this week.

According to CNN, California, Texas, and Florida all set records for the number of new cases in one day. There were 34,720 new cases recorded across the country on Tuesday. It's the third-highest number of new cases reported in one day since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that film studios need Los Angeles and New York City as these are the two largest moviegoing markets in the country. Movies houses in these states remain close and cases of COVID-19 are not showing a sign of slowing down as well.

The movie market outside the U.S. is also a concern. China, a prime market for Mulan, hasn't reopened its movie theaters and there is also no indication that it will soon. Moreover, there was also a resurgence of COVID-10 cases in the country.

Deadline believed that Disney is likely to delay Mulan's release date once again because of these factors. Another reason is the possibility that Warner Bros might move Tenet to July 31 from its July 17 premiere date.

If this happens, Mulan would be the movie that will kick off the summer season. The publication quoted an exhibition source as saying Disney doesn't like this scenario.

All of these made Deadline to predict that Disney might push Mulan's release date again. The outlet said the film studio could do it by the end of the year.

Mulan was originally set to premiere on March 27. Like other movies that were scheduled for release around the same time, Mulan was pushed back due to the coronavirus.

The upcoming animated film stars Chinese-American actress Liu Yifei in the title role. Jet Li will also appear in the movie in a supporting role as well as Jason Scott Lee, who is best known for his roles as Bruce Lee in the movie Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story in 1993.
