Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves have one of the most longstanding friendships in the entertainment business. Although they rarely work with each other nowadays, and they are both equally busy, how does their long bond started?
On the set of the 1992 film Bram Stoker's Dracula, Winona Ryder revealed Francis Ford Coppola asked the actors to yell things at her, which the filmmaker now denied and cleared. However, Keanu Reeves and Anthony Hopkins refused to participate.
She believed Francis Ford Coppola was mad at her after she withdrew from her role in Godfather Part Three. According to Celebrity Insider, her pull-out caused a lot of last-minute problems for the legendary director and the studio behind the iconic film.
The 48-year-old actress then said the 81-year-old film director asked the movie's actors to tell her, "you w****," in one of the emotional scenes of the film. However, neither Keanu Reeves nor Anthony Hopkins wanted to do it.
Hence, the Stranger Things star had nothing but good praises for the two actors. News.com.au noted that she was supposed to be crying in that scene, while the famed film composer tried to get the said actors, along with Richard E. Grant, yell things at her that would make her sob more. But with their refusal, the scene didn't work.
This scene, according to People, resulted in a long friendship between Winona Ryder and the Matrix star. The Beetlejuice actress was even proud that she got married to the 55-year-old Canadian actor in the wedding scene of the 1992 film. As it was officiated by a Romanian priest, it made her think that they were married in real life
In a joint interview with Entertainment Weekly in August 2018, the Girl, Interrupted star revealed that they shot the master and the priest did the whole thing, so she thought they were married. At the time, Keanu Reeves was listening to her in disbelief.
Anyhow, the John Wick actor found the fictional marriage "awesome," also revealing that Winona Ryder wrongfully believed that they were legally wed. He even admitted that he would still get a text from her, saying, "Hello, husband!"
Although he never believed her, Francis Ford Coppola called Winona Ryder and publicly said that the wedding really happened. The priest did a full ceremony, and Ryder and Keanu Reeves really got married.
To this day, Winona Ryder revealed that she and Francis Ford Coppola are now on good terms. They also both agreed that the film's actors only said horrible things to her to help her cry more for the movie. She, too, remains good friends with Keanu Reeves.
