Queen Elizabeth is known for strictly following the rules. However, Her Majesty broke a royal protocol for Meghan Markle, which debunks the former actress' claims that the Royal Family didn’t care about her.

Queen Elizabeth invited Meghan Markle to Christmas at Sandringham in 2017, five months before she and Prince Harry tied the knot. The Duchess of Sussex even joined the Royal Family’s traditional Christmas Day church service, even though she was not part of the clan at the time yet.

According to royal expert Phil Dampier, the invitation was a break with protocol. “[Queen Elizabeth] broke with protocol to invite Meghan to Christmas at Sandringham before they were married, and the couple ended up with a beautiful multi-million pound home in the middle of Windsor Great Park,” he said.

Phil Dampier believes that Queen Elizabeth will be “devastated” by Meghan Markle’s allegations. He noted that Her Majesty will cope with the situation, but she will “feel desperately betrayed.”

Meghan Markle filed a lawsuit against the publisher of The Mail on Sunday and MailOnline for publishing part of her private letter to her estranged father Thomas Markle in 2018. In the documents, the Duchess of Sussex’s legal team claimed that she was “unprotected by the Institution and prohibited from defending herself.”

Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers said in the podcast Pod Save The Queen that Meghan Markle is “particularly unhappy” at how she was treated by the Royal Family and the fact that she was restricted to respond to articles publicly.

This is not the first time that Meghan Markle implied that the Royal Family did not support her. The Duchess of Sussex opened up about her struggles to Tom Bradby in the documentary titled Harry & Meghan: An African Journey last year.

The anchor asked Meghan Markle about the impact of public scrutiny on her. The Duchess of Sussex then replied by thanking him for asking how she was feeling because she said that “not many people” have asked if she was okay, seemingly hinting that the Royal Family didn't care about her situation.

Meghan Markle’s interview in the Harry & Meghan: An African Journey documentary is being compared to Princess Diana’s explosive sit-down with Martin Bashir for Panorama in 1995. The Princess of Wales opened up about her relationship with Prince Charles, saying that there were three of them, including Camilla, in the marriage.
