While she's going to miss these ladies, Applegate said that they felt like the third installment is the best way to tie up the stories of these women. She then thanked all the fans of the series and noted they'll get back to work when it's safe to do so.
What's clear here is that the decision to end the show is purely for narrative reasons, rather than Netflix axing the series. After all, not all programs are meant to last for a long period of time, as some just have certain seasons to tie up the story.
When it comes to the official release date of Dead To Me season 3, nothing is certain as of this writing. The first and second installment arrived in May 2019 and 2020, respectively. But because of the real-life health crisis, that specific timeline may not be followed for the final installment.
As Applegate mentioned, production for the will start once it's safe to do so. A lot of shows have been halted and there's no indication as to when they could resume. Cast and crew could likely begin working once the situation gets a little bit better. The safety of everyone on set remains to be the top priority.
