There's a good reason why The Witcher was one of the biggest hits of 2019. In addition to its immersive storyline, the first season also featured several interesting characters and tons of action sequences. However, the most memorable fight in the Netflix series so far may have been the first one that pit Geralt of Rivia against the equally skilled Princess Renfri. Interestingly, Henry Cavill has just stated that the Blaviken fight scene was truly important in setting the tone of the film and showing off his character's unique fighting style.

In The Witcher Season 1, the first episode opened with Geralt of Rivia taking on a monster and he immediately heads for the town of Blaviken where he meets Renfri. It is revealed that Renfri is actually a princess who chose to become a bandit because she is being hunted down by the sorcerer Stregobor who believes she is evil due to her being born during an eclipse. The wizard soon calls on Geralt to kill the princess and although she initially agrees to leave the town, Renfri later changes her mind and launches an attack on Stregebor. This leaves Geralt with no other choice than to fight her and her men.

Although Geralt manages to defeat Renfri's men, he is clearly hesitant about fighting the princess. However, Renfri forces him into the fight and he has no choice but to kill her. The entire action sequence takes up much of the episode and Henry Cavill told Vanity Fair that the fight against Renfri revealed how his character is unwilling to spring into action unless truly necessary.

"He can still hold a conversation and try and save someone's life while they're trying to kill him. You see it especially with the Renfri fight. He's on the defensive with a couple of moves to try and put her on the back foot, and she doesn't listen and she keeps on pressing the attack," Cavill said. He went on to explain that Renfri's continuous attacks actually forced Geralt to do what he doesn't want to.

"Eventually you see the point where he realizes that she won't stop, that he will die because she is quick enough. So he presses the attack. The story of who he is as a character is told so physically there," Cavill said.

The Blaviken fight scene is truly one of the best action sequences in The Witcher so far. However, there is little doubt that Season 2 will feature even more fights that have been choreographed carefully.

The Witcher Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date. However, it is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2021.
