The clock is ticking on Chelsea F.C. as far as their tied with Willian Borges da Silva is concerned. Teams have been negotiating with the Brazilian, but none have been successful so far. Inter Miami tried to lure Willian to MLS. However, it appears they have failed.

According to the Telegraph, Willian turned down a three-year deal handed by The Herons to move to the MLS league. The offer given was roughly $125,000 a week that would last until 2023. Considering the Brazilian was looking for a three-year deal, the development may come as a surprise. Most know that this is something Premier League clubs are not too keen on giving, so passing up on David Beckham's team may raise some eyebrows.

The only logical explanation behind it is that Willian seems to prefer to stay in Europe than move to MLS. There are several teams in pursuit though nothing has progressed. Aside from the Blues, other teams interested in the 31-year-old player include Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham. With The Herons crossed out, all eyes are on the Hotspur, who are reportedly ready to offer Willian a massive contract.

But Chelsea still has an opportunity to keep Willian in the fold. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Blues were only willing to give the Brazilian a two-year pact. Willian was insistent on a three-year deal, likely tied to the fact that he is not getting any younger. It could be his last chance to get a massive deal, and Willian is not taking any chances. It was not mentioned, but if he prefers to stay in England, Willian may have to widen his options and consider offers carefully.

Different scenarios could come his way. One is that he would be given a two-year deal but with higher pay. The other is a three-year pact but with an adjusted wage. Most teams are financially distressed, hinting that there is a low chance that expensive offers will be made this summer.

Hence, the alleged massive offer that Tottenham is willing to give will be interesting. Details have yet to be revealed, something that the Blues are likely awaiting.

For Chelsea, letting Willian could be compensated by incoming players. Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech are already on board. Kai Havertz could be following soon, giving Frank Lampard a lot of offensive options. However, one thing that Willian holds is experience. Young players would still need guidance, a reason why keeping Willian at Stamford Bridge remains important.
