A lot of people have been talking about Kanye West's plan to run for US president. But as Election Day is only four months away, does he have the chance to win?
An election expert believes it's almost "impossible" for the 43-year-old rapper to win the election. It's also likely that the Americans will see an "extraterrestrial" in the White House than Kim Kardashian's husband.
Neil Sroka, Communications Director of Democracy For America, a political action group that helps elect people of color and white progressives into office, explained to HollywoodLife why the fashion mogul would find it hard to win the presidential race. In the national presidential poll made by Redfield & Wilton Strategies, the fashion designer only got two percent of votes from 2,000 registered US voters.
Joe Biden leads the poll with 48% votes, while the incumbent Donald Trump gets 39%, NME noted. The billionaire record producer joins Jo Jorgensen from the Libertarian Party in third place with only two percent votes each.
Neil explained that the odds of winning the presidency as an Independent candidate "are very long even under the best of circumstances." According to him, it has several reasons to do so.
He said the idea of announcing Kanye's presidential bid in July of the election year is "beyond absurd." The "long and short of it" is that as an Independent, it's tough to run a campaign in this short amount of time even if he has been planning it for years.
Although there are rumors that the father-of-four has been planning about his political campaign for a few years now, it can't deny the fact that he only announced his presidential bid on July 4. Hence, he only has four months to do everything that Trump and Biden have been doing for four years.
Neil said that it's not enough just to announce his plan to run for the presidency to enter the race. He has to file paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission to formally register his campaign. As of July 13, Kanye has yet to do that.
From there, he has to get his name on the ballot. As Kanye is running as an Independent, he will need to do a petition in every state to put his name on the ballot. Sadly, he already missed the deadline in 10 nations.
Aside from the deadlines in other states that are fast approaching, Kanye also has to gather signatures from each state's residents who will support his campaign. Anyhow, there are states, like Colorado, that he only has to pay to make his name appear on the ballot. By its looks, the presidential aspirant still has a lot of works to do.
