Prince William and Prince Harry’s close bond is one of the main reasons why the public loves them. But, then, many have noticed the huge change in their relationship after the Duke of Sussex married Meghan Markle in 2018.
Since Prince William and Prince Harry appeared to be less close after Meghan Markle came into the picture, many blamed the Duchess of Sussex for the alleged feud of the brothers. Now, a new report claims that the rift started way before the former actress became a part of the Royal Family.
Royal experts shared, in the Channel 5 documentary Prince Harry: The Troubled Prince, that the brothers didn’t always see eye to eye. In one particular incident, Prince Harry allegedly made a shocking outburst at Prince William.
Ken Wharfe, a long-serving protection officer to the royals, shared that when Princess Diana took Prince William and Prince Harry to High Grove in Gloucestershire, the brothers were already arguing even before they left. "Harry out of nowhere said: 'William, one day you’ll be king, I won’t, it doesn’t matter therefore I can do what I like,’” he said.
Columnist Richard Kay explained that Prince Harry’s outburst could be taken in two ways: envy or freedom. He was either jealous that his older brother is the future king and he’s not, or he was enjoying his freedom of not having that burden.
As for Prince William, while he is embracing his future role these days, it wasn’t the case before at all. Journalist Jeremy Paxman, previously, claimed that the Duke of Cambridge told his mother Princess Diana that he had no desire to become king.
As a young boy, Prince William may have seen his future role as something that he couldn’t handle. Even though Princess Diana tried to give him and Prince Harry normal childhood experiences, their lives as members of the Royal family are certainly far from being average.
That being said, Prince William knew that being the King of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms is not an easy task. Despite not having any interest in being the monarch someday, Queen Elizabeth took the Duke of Cambridge under her wing to prepare him for his future role.
Fast forward to today, Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, are two of the most popular and well-loved members of the Royal family. Even though the Duke of Cambridge wasn’t so keen on becoming King when he was younger, he’s fitting the role more and more each day.
