Queen Elizabeth has been a huge inspiration to the Britons for decades, and most especially during the coronavirus pandemic. Her Majesty has shown strength and stability to the public, and the speech she delivered in early April about the health crisis earned her more praise.
Despite her age, Queen Elizabeth has consistently shown that she still has enough gas to lead the monarchy. However, the Channel 5 documentary, The Queen: Duty before Family? is suggesting that she could soon abdicate.
"Now in her mid-90s, will she sit back and enjoy her final years or keep on going as the full-time Queen of her nation,” the narrator said.
The year 2020 may have just begun, but Queen Elizabeth is already enduring a lot of difficulties due to her son Prince Andrew’s resignation, and grandson Prince Harry's decision to step down as senior royal with his wife Meghan Markle. A major hint was then dropped that Her Majesty may stand down this year.
Bookmaker Coral has slashed odds on Queen Elizabeth abdicating to 5-4 from 2-1. And Prince Charles becoming King is at 1-5. But there is another option, which is the Prince of Wales paving the way to his son Prince William at 3-1.
Royal expert Richard Betherlson previously claimed that Prince Charles had been "fundamentally running the Royal Family" for years, so it would be an easy decision for Queen Elizabeth to allow her son to take full control of the monarchy. The royal expert then pointed out that Prince Philip’s retirement was already a sign that Her Majesty will not be staying in the throne much longer.
Since she’s not getting any younger, there are a lot of things that the Queen couldn’t physically do anymore. It was previously reported that Her Majesty already segregated some of her duties to the younger royals.
Richard Betherlson then added that the ongoing scandal surrounding Prince Andrew might have led Queen Elizabeth to decide to abdicate easier. And now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle even added to the Queen’s worries after their shocking announcement in January.
Meanwhile, due to the global heal crisis, Queen Elizabeth is spending most of her time indoor than completing her normal royal duties. Those who are over 70 are considered to be most at risk of catching severe COVID-19, which means Her Majesty, 94, and Prince Charles, 71, are expected to follow the strict government guidelines. As of the moment, Prince William and Kate Middleton have ramped up their royal duties.
