Meghan Markle recently delivered a speech in the Girl Up leadership conference. The Duchess of Sussex took part in the gender equality initiative of the United Nations Foundation, which, reportedly, marked a "significant moment" for her.
Sky News' royal correspondent Rhiannon Mills noted that Meghan Markle already talked about the topics that she addressed in the prerecorded video before. However, she pointed out that the difference is that this is the first time that the Duchess of Sussex talked about this since she and Prince Harry stepped down as senior royals.
"She came out by saying [the policymakers and world leaders] don't listen until they have to because the status quo is easy to excuse and it's hard to break. Is that something she would have said as a member of the Royal Family? Who knows,” she said.
Rhiannon Mills then added that she had been listening to Meghan Markle’s speech in the past where she didn’t hold back. The royal correspondent shared that the Duchess of Sussex was “more punchy” in her recent speech.
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle was an actress before she married Prince Harry in 2018. Although the Duchess of Sussex had to give up her celebrity status to be the wife of the younger son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, she still maintains her capability of being comfortable with speaking to people.
On top of being an actress, Meghan Markle was also an activist and a public speaker. In 2012, the Duchess of Sussex joined USA Network's “Characters Unite: ‘I Won't Stand For’” campaign and spoke about her struggles being a biracial woman.
With chaos erupting in the US over the death of George Floyd at the hands of police brutality in May 25, Meghan Markle touched on this subject during a speech she gave to graduates at the Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles. A report then revealed that the Duchess of Sussex didn’t have notes when she delivered her message.
This revelation is not shocking at all as a previous report even suggested that Meghan Markle outperformed Kate Middleton during their first royal speech. The Duchess of Sussex may no longer be a working royal as she and Prince Harry officially stepped down from their roles at the end of March, but her presence during her time in the UK, reportedly, left its mark.
Body language expert Judi James compared Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s first royal speech and favored the latter. The Duchess of Sussex’s acting background has definitely helped her as Judi James shared that Meghan didn’t even have any notes when she delivered her speech. As mentioned above, she was an actress, so learning lines was something that comes naturally to her than Kate Middleton.
