Prince William had been preparing for his future role as the King of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth realms. Although the Duke of Cambridge is not the heir apparent to the throne, he is the second in the line of succession, and many believed that he would be leading the monarchy sooner than expected.
Being the future King is something that Prince William did not sign up for. It is a part of his destiny, being the older song of the heir apparent Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana.
It was previously reported that Prince William did not want to be King. Journalist Jeremy Paxman claimed that the Duke of Cambridge told his mother, Princess Diana, that he had no desire to take the role. He was even accused of being a “reluctant royal.”
Prince William knew that being a King is not an easy task. But despite not having any interest in being the monarch one day, Queen Elizabeth took the Duke of Cambridge under her wing to prepare him for his future role.
Those who are close to Prince William revealed in the 2012 documentary Prince William at Thirty that he would stay in Chile if given the chance. The Duke of Cambridge flew to the South American country in 2000 for his three-month volunteering trip with Raleigh International.
Expedition leader for the non-profit Malcolm Sutherland said that Prince William loved it there. The documentary also showed a clip of the Duke of Cambridge explaining why he loved being in Chile.
“I don’t like to be treated any differently at all. I don’t like special treatment at all, which is why I think I get along with these guys so well,” he said.
It is difficult not to link Prince William’s revelations in the documentary to Prince Harry’s royal exit. If the Duke of Cambridge turned his back on royal life like his younger brother did, there is a possibility that he would be living in Chile.
Prince Harry is currently living in Los Angeles with Meghan Markle and their son Archie after he and his wife officially stepped down from their senior royals roles at the end of March. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are making a fresh start in the US as they aim to live a more “peaceful life” while being “financially independent.”
As for Prince William, even though he wasn’t so keen on becoming King when he was younger, he’s fitting the role more and more each day.
