Amazon Prime Video hasn't yet officially renewed Absentia season 4, but the events that happened in the season 3 finale set up more stories for Stana Katic's Emily Byrne moving forward. While one chapter has concluded, it also opens new questions regarding the future of most characters.
One of the biggest concerns entering Absentia season 4 is the future of Emily's son Flynn and her husband Nick Durand. The two were presumed dead in the eyes of the public since this is the only way to keep them safe and hide them from the authorities for now.
Flynn and Nick didn't appear in the flash-forward scene, so it's unclear whether or not Emily has been around them. Being away from her son is a huge sacrifice on Katic's character, and this could emotionally affect her moving forward.
The third installment ended with Emily reuniting with Cal Isaac, who visited her while working on her new operation. The two met at a coffee shop, with Emily sporting a blonde wig. It's clear that she's up to something and it might be related to the Meridian file and taking down corruption.
Absentia season 4 could be a continuation from much of the season 3 finale. In the closing minutes, Cal hinted they could work together again and Emily seemingly agrees to the idea as she takes off her blonde wig. It also looks like the two may rekindle their romance in the potential new season.
The story could also go into a different direction and we'll likely see something that we've never seen before. The series is all about human psychology and overcoming trauma, but it has evolved and managed to adapt to other genres over the past years.
The show has presented elements of a spy thriller, as stakes are higher and threats are harder to take down. CarterMatt also noted the series feels more global now, and there's a question whether the FBI could still play a huge part in the story.
But while there are a lot of potential stories in Absentia season 4, it should be noted that Amazon Prime Video hasn't yet officially renewed the series as of this writing. Despite that, many were optimistic the show is coming back since there are still more stories to tell.
If ever the streaming platform renewed the series, we could expect the arrival of Absentia season 4 in summer 2021. Usually, it takes about a year to produce a season, and that only means it could premiere by August 2021. However, nothing is certain for now because of the global health crisis.
