Reportedly, production is set to begin in the fall, but this could still be changed depending on the current situation. The series is facing several challenges, especially when it comes to filming.
Productions for most TV shows and films have been adjusting to the global health crisis. Some have been reducing the case and crews on set, while others fine way to ensure a safe environment and implementing more outdoor shoots. Outlander season 6 could likely follow the latter guideline.
One of the advantages of the Starz series is that filming outdoor scenes wouldn't entirely affect the story. They could increase exterior locations and don't have to eliminate certain scenes, so there won't be too many changes within the story.
However, one of the major challenges of filming outdoors is the weather. If production for Outlander season 6 doesn't start until the fall, which only means we could see some episodes done during the winter. If ever that happens, there will be a lot of winter scenes featured onscreen in the new season.
