Queen Elizabeth is, reportedly, not backing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's moves to turn political, according to a royal author. Her Majesty may, reportedly, be horrified by the latest statements of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on current social and political issues.

Tom Quinn, who wrote the book, Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir from Queen Mary to Meghan Markle, said that Queen Elizabeth does not likely agree with Prince Harry and Meghan's comments about the Commonwealth's legacy. Early this month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had a video conference with members of the Commonwealth Trust on the topic of racism, unconscious bias and historical injustice. Prince Harry told them that the Commonwealth needs to "acknowledge the past" even if this is "uncomfortable."

Following that comment, Prince Harry and Meghan received criticisms for, allegedly, disrespecting the Queen, who is the head of the Commonwealth. Royal historian Tessa Dunlop, however, said that the monarch likely understood where Prince Harry and Meghan were coming from since she did not fire the couple as the president and vice president of her Commonwealth Trust.

But, Quinn disagreed with Dunlop's observation. The royal author pointed out that Queen Elizabeth never involves herself in social and political issues "because the risk is too great." Quinn said that making strong political statements only attracts criticisms and that's something the royal family avoids.

Meghan is, also, rumored to be plotting a career in politics in the U.S., giving rise to speculations why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have become outspoken on serious political matters. In her speech for the U.N.'s virtual leadership summit, Meghan acknowledged the participation of young girls during the Black Lives Matter protests. She, also, spoke about gun control and asked school boards to give the kids mental health resources.

But, her statements were not well-received by the British press. Dan Wooton of The Sun said that Meghan's U.N. speech showed her political color as a Democrat. The royal editor thinks Meghan should stop calling herself the Duchess of Sussex if she wants to be political.

Joe Little of the Majesty magazine believes that Prince Harry and Meghan won't be able to make political statements if they were still working royals. Since leaving London and moving to Los Angeles, however, the dynamics changed for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Their independence from the royals has allowed them to assume a more activist role
