Fox has officially renewed Prodigal Son season 2, but it won't be arriving until 2021. Filming of the series hasn't yet kicked off and it won't likely start anytime soon. While most series are slowly getting back to work, it looks like the series is taking its time before starting production.
In a recent Twitter post, series star Lou Diamond Phillips was asked when shooting could begin for Prodigal Son season 2. The actor responded they may start filming sometime in the fall. But, there is no official date as to when could that be. Thus, this schedule is still subjected to change.
A lot of productions could resume filming in New York since the city has implemented certain health regulations, as well as restrictions. Although this is good news, there are still other factors that needed to be considered. The health and safety of everyone remain to be the top priority right now.
Meanwhile, new episodes of the series drop every Monday night, but CarterMatt noted the timeslot of Prodigal Son season 2 might be changed. The latest installment could be placed on Tuesday night alongside The Residents to fill up the spot that was, previously, reserved for Empire.
As for what's coming in the new season, the season 1 finale hinted are more stories are coming in the future. One of the biggest stories here is the shocking transformation of Ainsley Whitly and she could be the focus in the upcoming installment.
The teaser Prodigal Son season 2 hinted that Ainsley is becoming completely different and turning into a somewhat terrifying character. She is responsible for Nicholas Endicott's death, which is an indication that she's just like her father, Dr. Martin Whitly.
While Ainsley looks normal and wasn't affected by the things her father has been doing since she was five, these memories have impacted her for the rest of her life. The clip hinted that her memories from the past were haunting her.
The teaser also showed Martin, who's seemingly tormenting Ainsley's mind. This story will further be explored in the upcoming installment, with some buried and dark secrets being uncovered. What's happening to Ainsley could also affect Malcolm Bright.
Even though she killed someone evil, her actions still come will several consequences. And because of this, Bright has to deal with a difficult position in Prodigal Son season 2. He could likely make some questionable decisions since Ainsley is his younger sister.
