Prince William and Kate Middleton’s relationship is not your ordinary royal romance. The Duchess of Cambridge was born a commoner while her husband is the second in the line to the British throne, making them a modern royal couple.

And just like any other couple, Prince William and Kate Middleton also give each other gifts. In fact, one particular present “sealed the deal” with the Duchess of Cambridge, according to the future King.

Prince William had an appearance on BBC Radio Five's That Peter Crouch Podcast, which was recorded at Kensington Palace before the lockdown in March. The Duke of Cambridge talked about football, mental health and relationships.

During the relaxed conversation, Prince William and Peter Crouch discussed the unusual presents they gave to their wives. The English former professional footballer confessed that he had given his wife, Abbey Clancy, a raincoat for three straight years. The Duke of Cambridge, then, shared his own odd gift for Kate Middleton.

"I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once – she's never let me forget that. That was early on in the courtship, that was – I think that sealed the deal,” he said.

Crouch laughed at Prince William’s revelation, prompting the latter to admit that he didn’t know why he bought Kate Middleton a pair of binoculars. But he added that “it seemed like a good idea at the time."

This is not the first time Prince William has talked about mental health. In a BBC One documentary, the Duke of Cambridge opened up about his struggles to cope with the death of Princess Diana at a young age.

Prince William shared that the effect on his emotions didn’t stop as it dragged on until he became a father. He also had a candid discussion about mental health and moved a lot of people with it.

The Duke of Cambridge shared the trauma that he endured with former Premier League footballer Marvin Sordell in the documentary. Marvin said he knew the feeling, as his father was absent in his life during his childhood.

Prince William then told Marvin that his father would be “very proud” of him. The former Premier League footballer assured the Duke of Cambridge that Princess Diana would be proud of him too. “I appreciate that,” the future King said.

Just like Princess Diana, Prince William and Kate Middleton are also well-loved by the public. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are two of the most popular members of the Royal Family.
