Stephenie Meyer's much-awaited new installment to the Twilight series, Midnight Sun, is now out. As it will tell Edward Cullen's side of the story, will fans see a movie out of it?

In an interview with the Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, she told HollywoodLife it would be great to have a movie adaptation of the book. When they were doing the film series, the filmmaker revealed Meyer asked her and Robert Pattinson himself, who played as Edward in the five movies, if they wanted to read the first five chapters of Midnight Sun.

The author knew that reading the story about Edward's perspective would help Pattinson develop his character while doing the movie.  So, the 64-year-old screenwriter advised everyone to read the latest Twilight book installment, explaining it was fascinating to see the story from a whole new different perspective. She even called it "fund and cool."

Meyer had been doing Midnight Sun for years before it was, officially, released on Aug. 4. However, she put the project on hold "indefinitely" after a draft of her manuscript was leaked online in 2008.

She wrote, on her website, that she felt sad about what happened even to continue working on it at the time. She found the ordeal a "huge violation" of her rights as an author and human being. So, she put it on the sideline.

But, after 12 years, fans could finally get a hold of the new book, hitting the bookshelves recently.

The Guardian noted it is even topping the book charts a day after its release. About 1 million hardbacks had been printed in the U.S. while U.K.-based publisher Atom Books released 300,000 copies. The British country was expecting a "huge" first week of sales.

Publisher James Gurbutt knew Midnight Sun was "always going to be a big deal." After the leak, fans, already, had a taste of what was about to come but Gurbutt knew they wanted more.

Now, avid Twilight followers would know Edward's full story. Gurbutt found the book's release a little timely after the COVID-19 pandemic had grappled a lot of industries. As the bookshops had reopened recently, he hoped that Midnight Sun would be a "significant publication for retailers."

Children's buyer Florentyna Martin said the book was an "immediate bestseller." Meyer's "lasting impact on a generation of readers" could be felt again with Midnight Sun's release. It would give fans a chance to once again explore the Twilight series by knowing Edward's side of the story.
