The Good Doctor season 4 is planning to start production in mid-August, but the wait might be a little bit longer now. Most TV shows haven't started filming yet because of the current global health crisis. However, the case is different when it comes to the ABC medical drama series.

According to a report from The Hollywood ReporterThe Good Doctor season 4 halted its production in Vancouver due to concerns regarding COVID-19 testing for cast and crew. A spokesperson from Sony Pictures Television confirmed they're working to resolve the testing issues with the British Columbia Council.

The series has been in pre-production and was eyeing for a mid-August filming date. However, things could be delayed because of the situation. Sources claim the problem starts with how often individuals on set are tested, with some wanted to be tested frequently than the BC Council allows.

One insider said the virus has been managed in Canada than in the United States. So, the BC Council feels testing shouldn't be done frequently as other people think it might. The BC Council, however, didn't immediately respond regarding the issue.

Meanwhile, producer Shawn Williamson detailed in a previous interview CTV Vancouver what's being done behind the scenes of The Good Doctor season 4. He said that masks are being worn in production offices and soundstages, and hand sanitizers have been placed around the set.

In addition, sets are being altered to have more rooms for physical distancing, both in terms of cast and crew. Lead star Freddie Highmore, also, arrived in British Colombia and went to quarantine, which is required for anyone who'll step on set.

When it comes to the release date of The Good Doctor season 4, nothing is certain as of this writing. Since production has been delayed, we can, also, expect the new installment to arrive at a later date. It could likely premiere at some point in 2021.

As for what stories are coming, the latest season will further explore Shaun (Highmore) and Lea's (Paige Spara) relationship. The two admitted their feeling for each other at the end of season 3 but that doesn't necessarily mean everything will run smoothly for them.

In a previous report via TVLine, showrunner David Shore said they wanted Shaun and Lea to be together. Howeverm there's also a question whether or not their relationship will last. They've been through a lot, yet there are still complications along the way.

Shaun and Lea's relationship will be further tested in The Good Doctor season 4. More conflicts are coming, causing them to fall apart. Also, it has been hinted that the two could break up at some point in the upcoming installment.
