Gwyneth Paltrow has recalled the time her marriage with Chris Martin ended. She knew their romance was about to end when they went on a trip to the Tuscan countryside for her 38th birthday.

It has been six years since the ex-couple announced they were "unconsciously uncoupling." In a piece she wrote for British Vogue, Paltrow looked back at the time she and Martin split up and the lessons she learned from the experience.

Despite the celebration, a beautiful surrounding and long walks, she knew her marriage was over. It took years before they managed to say the "words aloud."

On the weekend of her birthday Paltrow finally heard the truth.

Although they parted ways, Paltrow could not deny that she and Martin "were close." They had always been friends, but they had never managed to "fully settle" into being a pair.

They did not fit together, as there would always be a feeling of "unease and unrest." However, they love their children very much. The two share two children, Apple, 16 and Moses, 14.

Long before she knew their marriage would end, the Iron Man revealed she and the Coldplay frontman "tried everything" to save their romance. However, the day came that they had to announce their split.

Daily Mail added that despite their failed relationship, they share "common interests." They laughed at the same things, have the same sense of humor. They also love the same qualities in music.

Paltrow and Martin were also fond of walking to and from Osteria Basilico through the park for pizza. They enjoyed British summer nights.

They have maintained a healthy co-parenting relationship, adding it is of utmost importance for them. They both love road trips to the New Forest or the seaside but they love their children the most.

Four years after their divorce became official, the two have moved on. They now are into respective new relationships. Paltrow is married to the television writer, director and producer Brad Falchuk. They tied the knot in the Hamptons in September 2018. Martin, alternatively, is in a relationship with Dakota Johnson, the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. They have been dating since October 2017.
