Keanu Reeves is a truly busy man with several major projects in the future. The A-lister is expected to resume work on The Matrix 4 this month and will also appear in the highly-anticipated video game Cyberpunk 2077 as Johnny Silverhand. Not surprisingly, Reeves will soon start working on another beloved franchise. It has just been confirmed that John Wick 5 is currently in development and will begin production by early 2021.
There have only been three John Wick movies so far and the third film was initially expected to round out the movie series. However, it was later confirmed that there will be two more John Wick films as the lead character ultimately takes on the High Table. Needless to say, this was welcome news for Keanu Reeves fans who are hoping to see him in action once again. Unfortunately, the actor's hectic schedule and the coronavirus outbreak also led to the delay in the sequels' production.
Luckily, there is good news about the films. Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer has just told Entertainment Weekly that the studio is ready to move forward with John Wick 5. In addition to that, the fifth installment of the franchise will begin production sooner than expected.
"We're busy preparing scripts for the next two installments of our John Wick action franchise," Feltheimer said while discussing the studio's Thursday earnings call. "We hope to shoot both John Wick 4 and 5 back-to-back when Keanu becomes available early next year."
The idea of filming both sequels at the same time is a welcome one since it would allow Keanu Reeves to complete two films sooner. Additionally, the wait between John Wick 4 and John Wick 5 will be a lot shorter for fans. It would also allow Reeves to finish working on the movies and move on to his other projects.
The premise of John Wick 4 and John Wick 5 has not yet been revealed. However, there is a huge possibility that it will focus on John and the Bowery King's plans to take down the High Table. There are also speculations that Anjelica Huston's The Director will return and could join them in the fight against the High Table. On the other hand, the plot details have not yet been revealed so it is best to take this with a grain of salt.
John Wick 4 is currently scheduled for release on May 27, 2022. John Wick 5 has not yet been given an official release date.
