Simon Cowell won't be joining his fellow judges at two "America's Got Talent" live shows this week. Cowell is recovering from back surgery following an eclectic cycle accident over the weekend.

Simon's fellow judges Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum shared photos of them on the set during a rehearsal of an AGT show. The two, along with Howie Mandel, pointed to Cowell's empty chair and sent their best wishes to the AGT creator.

Cowell's company Syco Entertainment earlier confirmed the music producer was involved in an accident Saturday while testing his new electric bike at his Malibu home. People magazine quoted a source as saying Cowell landed on his back when he fell from the bike.

Apparently, Cowell, 60, broke his back and underwent a five-hour surgery the same day. During surgery a number of fusions and a metal rod were employed. Cowell is recovering in hospital.

Cowell has been in quarantine at home during the COVID-19 pandemic with his girlfriend Lauren Silverman, their 6-year-old son Eric and Silverman's 14-year-old son Adam from a previous relationship.

The Syco CEO shared a social-media message after the accident. In his post he advised people planning to buy an electric bike to read the manual first to avoid accidents.

Meanwhile, AGT has a challenging season ahead. The coronavirus started in the U.S. when the show was in its audition stages. The production team initially moved to tape auditions without an audience before completely suspending production in March.

Filming resumed in June but with virtual performances. As a safety precaution, the competition was relocated from its Hollywood venue to an outdoor site in Simi Valley. The judges practiced social distancing.

AGT was criticized recently after former judge Gabrielle Union revealed an alleged toxic culture at the show. The singer filed a discrimination lawsuit in May against AGT producers, including Cowell, citing racism and prejudice.

AGT's Season 5 is set to kick off Aug. 11 with the first 11 of 44 quarter finalists. AGT airs Tuesday and Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST on NBC. Terry Crews will still be hosting this season.
