YG Entertainment's new boy group TREASURE is making waves in Japan and all around the world with their debut single "BOY."
According to a report by All Kpop, TREASURE's title track for their debut album The First Step: Chapter One entered several music charts in Japan upon its release. "BOY" ranked in the Top 3 real-time chart of Line Music in Japan and topped Rakuten Music Chart for real-time rankings and AWA rapid rise chart. It, also, secured a place in the Japanese iTunes chart for the Kpop and pop categories.
TREASURE's popularity in Japan could be attributed strongly to the presence of Japanese members Yoshi, Haruto, and Asahi.
TREASURE did not only prove its popularity in the "Land of the Rising Sun" because the new boy group, also, topped the iTunes charts in 19 regions. This is no small feat for a rookie group.
Soompi reported "BOY" reached the top of the iTunes charts in Asian countries like Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Thailand. It, also, topped the chart in Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Luxembourg, Qatar, and Peru. The track's music video is, also, on its way to reaching 15 million views on YouTube only three days after its official release.
Long time fans of TREASURE have been waiting two years for their debut after the final line up was selected in the Kpop idol search YG Treasure Box, which ran from 2018-2019.
Thirteen members were, initially, selected from the show's contenders. The group was originally going to be launched as TREASURE 13. However, one of the members, Yoonbin, left YG before debuting because of creative differences with the label.
Now, Hyunsuk, Jihoon, Yoshinori, Junkyu, Mashiho, Jaehyuk, Asahi, Yedam, Haruto, Doyoung, Jeongwoo, and Junghwan make up the final line up with Hyunsuk and Jihoon both serving as leaders of the group. According to members, having two leaders gives the group a different kind of synergy.
Before their debut, members expressed excitement over greeting the fans. There is a lot of interest in the group, particularly since this is the first time for YG to launch an idol group of this size, unlike other labels like SM Entertainment that launched Super Junior with 13 members and or Pledis Entertainment's SEVENTEEN, which also had 13 members. YG boy groups -- BIGBANG, WINNER, iKON, typically, range from four to seven members.
Teen Vogue even did an extensive feature on why TREASURE deserves to be stanned by Kpop fans who are looking for talent, looks, and charisma.
