Outlander season 6 hasn't started filming yet, but it is expected to go in production in the coming months. Despite the delay, the cast and producers joined the virtual panel on Paley Center's YouTube channel and teased what viewers can expect in the upcoming installment.
Series stars Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton, Roger Rankin, Outlander author Diana Gabaldon, executive producer Maril Davis, and executive producer-showrunner Matthew B. Roberts join the discussion and talked about Outlander season 6.
The new installment is based on Gabaldon's A Breath of Snow and Ashes. Some moments in the book were incorporated in the previous season, including Brianna's (Skelton) kidnapping, Stephen Bonnet's (Ed Speleers) death, and Claire's (Balfe) sexual assault by the men from Brownsville.
Yet, Roberts teased there is some much more to come in the latest installment. He explained that one of the things they dig into is that the Frasers and MacKenzies always try to put themselves out there. They're all affected by traumas and turmoil in the era, mostly because they want to help people.
They are, constantly, putting themselves at risk, which eventually leads to their own sufferings. But, Roberts noted that Outlander season 6 is not all about the Frasers and MacKenzies' suffering. The book, also, incorporates joy, something that is being negotiated in the writers' room.
Meanwhile, the cast and executive producers are looking forward to going back to work. For Heughan, he is excited to start working again since there will be no more Zoom calls. In addition, he is excited to see where his character, Jamie, is going in the new installment.
Balfe is, also, excited to see all her crew and she might get a haircut this season. Meanwhile, Skelton said a lot of things happened in the fifth installment and each episode was like a little movie. While it is fast-paced, she is excited to explore more of the materials in Outlander season 6.
Brianna has been through a lot already, but Skelton teased there's even more happening to her character in the upcoming installment. As for Rankin, who plays Roger, he is excited to get back on set, as well. He said doesn't have any idea what will happen to his character since he hasn't read book six yet.
As for the offical release date of Outlander season 5, nothing is confirmed at the moment. The series is facing several filming challenges due to the current global health crisis. Because of the delay, fans can expect the new installment in 2021.
