CSI revival is, reportedly, being considered on CBS. Though nothing is officially confirmed at the moment, there's a significant movement to make it happen. If ever the plan will push through, we could expect some familiar faces returning.
According to a recent report from TVLine, William Petersen and Jorja Fox will reprise their roles as Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle, respectively, if CSI revival happens on CBS. In addition, several new characters will be joining Petersen and Fox if the network decided to formally order the series.
Back in February 2020, Deadline first reported that CBS is planning to release a CSI revival to mark the 20th anniversary of the crime-drama series. But, since then, no further details have been released regarding the potential project.
Also, some sources claimed that no deals are being made right now and the project is still in its early stage. There is a possibility it may not happen, at least for the time being, considering the current health crisis. Moreover, representatives for both CBS TV and CBS declined to comment on this matter.
For now, viewers have to wait until the official announcement regarding CSI revival is made. Right now, CBS has other priorities, with the biggest one getting its fall schedule together. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most schedules of shows on the network have been impacted.
Meanwhile, the series is one of the most successful shows in the network. The crime drama ran for 15 seasons and one of the longest-shows on CBS -- debuted in October 2000 and ended in September 2015. Furthermore, it generated a high rating and delivered three spin-offs: Miami, New York, and Cyber.
CSI followed crime-scene investigators of the Las Vegas Police Department. They were all working together and use physical evidence to solve crimes. Although nothing is confirmed, Deadline noted that CSI revival is set in Las Vegas, as well, and would serve as a sequel to the original show rather than a spin-off.
In addition to Petersen and Fox, the series also starred Gary Dourdan, Marg Helgenberger, Robert David Hall, George Eads, Jon Wellner, Elisabeth Shue, Ted Danson, Lauren Lee Smith, Wallace Langham, Louise Lombard, Eric Szmanda, and Paul Guilfoyle.
More updates might be released regarding the potential project in the coming weeks or months. And if ever CSI revival will happen, it would be the latest broadcast drama to stage a return as a limited series, joining NBC's Heroes, Fox's Prison Break, The X-Files, and 24.
