Lucifer season 5 is dropping its first eight episodes next week on Netflix. There are a lot of exciting stories coming here, particularly the arrival of the titular character's twin brother, Michael. Tom Ellis will be playing two different characters this time around, which is interesting yet challenging from him.

Aside from playing the titular role, Ellis is also set to play Michael in the upcoming Lucifer season 5. Only a few details about this new character were revealed, so it remains unclear why he suddenly showed up on Earth. But, he's is pretending to be his twin brother, who's currently in Hell.

Michael will bring a lot of chaos to the lives of several characters, most especially to Chloe. She is vulnerable after Lucifer chose to go back to Hell at the end of season 4. She seems happy when she saw him again after a long time, but she'll soon realize he's not the Lucifer that she loves.

For Ellis, playing both Lucifer and Michael is challenging for him. In a recent interview with Backstage, the actor said playing a new character in the latest installment messed up his head a bit, given that he's been playing the titular role for five years.

Ellis noted that he felt like a fraud to his friends and colleagues, though he also felt nice to think about a different character. As for how Lucifer and Michael are different, he revealed that he goes on to old-school to figure out the physicality and other aspects -- as opposed to transformative prosthetics.

Meanwhile, Lucifer season 5 releases new videos featuring Chloe (Lauren German), Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt), and Michael. In the first clip, Michael is talking to Maze and he claims that he knows a lot of things. It looks like he's a big threat to all of them, making him the potential Big Bad in Lucifer season 5.

The second clip features Maze and Chloe, who both need to track down a runner. Based on their outfit, this scene comes from the premiere episode -- where they seemingly go undercover. Since Lucifer is not around during the early run, Chloe probably enlists Maze's help on her investigations.

The series hasn't been able to finish production due to the current health crisis. There are eight remaining episodes that weren't filmed, and there's no indication when filming could resume. But, if cast and crew go back to work by the end of the year, we could expect the second half premiering at some point in 2021.

Lucifer season 5 arrives on Friday, Aug. 21, on Netflix.
