Meghan Markle and Ivanka Trump's friendship never got a mention in the Finding Freedom book and a columnist claimed it was a conveniently done to protect the Duchess of Sussex's mission.

Satirist Craig Brown wrote that the authors of the book had to "conveniently airbrush" the daughter of President Donald Trump from Meghan's story because it would not jive with the Sussex pair's new mission. Prince Harry and Meghan plan to "build a humanitarian legacy" but Brown suggested that associating with the Trumps might not be good for them.

Meghan, apparently, wrote about her friend Ivanka in her former lifestyle blog The Tig in 2014. According to reports, the Duchess of Sussex described the president's daughter as "staggeringly beautiful" and "intelligent."

Biographer Andrew Morton revealed, in the book Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, that the former TV actress was "thrilled" when Ivanka agreed to answer her questionnaire for her blog. She was even more elated when Ivanka accepted Meghan's invitation to have drinks and dinner when she visited New York. After that meeting, Meghan allegedly wrote on The Tig that she ordered whatever Ivanka ordered since she "seems to have the formula for success."

In 2015, Meghan said in an interview with InStyle magazine that she "loves" Ivanka and thinks that she's a "spectacular" woman for having a successful fashion company. When Prince Harry and Meghan announced their engagement in 2017, Ivanka sent her well-wishes for the couple via Twitter.

Brown, however, said that these details were glossed over in Finding Freedom and this was a deliberate decision. The Sussex couple, however, issued a statement saying that they did not have anything to do with the book and never sat down with the authors for interviews.

Allegedly, Meghan and Ivanka's friendship soured during the 2016 presidential elections when the former Suits star pledged her support for Hillary Clinton. Megan also called then-presidential nominee Trump as "misogynistic" and "divisive" in a TV panel interview.

Meghan and Ivanka have a common friend in designer Misha Nonoo. They were both at Nonoo's wedding to Michael Hess in Italy in 2019 but, according to The Daily Beast, the Democratic Meghan didn't want to be seen with Trump's daughter at that event.

A few months before their friend's wedding, Meghan wasn't able to meet and mingle with the Trumps during their state visit to London, as she was still on maternity leave. Prince Harry was present at the state dinner but, reportedly, kept a safe distance from the Trumps.
