The United States has seen a slight decline in daily new coronavirus cases over the past week but cluster infections in several states have caused problems for local governments.

Colorado College Students in Quarantine

Following the positive COVID-19 test of a new student who arrived at the Colorado College campus on Friday, 155 other students have been placed in 14-day quarantines for monitoring.

According to a newsletter from the college, the quarantined students will only be allowed to leave their rooms to go to the restroom. They will also be required to wear face masks.

The quarantined students at Colorado College are just part of a string of potential cluster infections in universities across the United States.

Georgia College Students Defy Social Distancing Guidelines

As colleges around the country continue to raise concerns about potential COVID-19 clusters linked to campuses, University of North Georgia (UNG) students partied over the weekend.

A video showing the students not practicing proper social distancing protocols has since gone viral on the internet.

In the video, very few students can be seen wearing face masks. The students were also crowded together while partying outside an off-campus apartment. It is unclear who posted the video.

UNG executive director of communications Sylvia Carson said in a statement that the college was "disappointed" that the students "chose to ignore COVID-19 public health guidance."

As of Monday, Georgia has logged a total of 237,030 confirmed coronavirus cases and 4,702 deaths linked to the virus.

California Prison COVID-19 Testing Issues Detected

The California state's Office of Inspector General said on Monday that improper COVID-19 testing guidelines and a lack of medical staff may have contributed to the spreading of the virus in prisons.

The office also said that faulty thermometers could have further helped spread the novel coronavirus in prisons across the state. The report added that inadequate training and faulty equipment could have exposed other people entering prisons.

As of Monday, over 9,500 inmates in California have been infected with COVID-19 and at least 54 have succumbed to the disease.

The state of California has logged a total of 635,070 confirmed coronavirus cases and 11,343 deaths. It remains the hardest-hit state in the U.S.

Texas Soars Past 10,000 Deaths

Texas on Monday logged 51 new deaths linked to COVID-19, bringing the state's fatality toll past 10,000 and marking a grim new milestone in the hard-hit state.

The Texas Department of State Health Services also reported more than 2,700 new confirmed coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours. As of Monday, the state's infection toll stood at 542,950.

Local government officials have raised concerns about the lack of people who are seeking COVID-19 testing following what is considered an early reopening of the economy in Texas.

Florida Logs Two-Month Record Low in Daily Cases

Meanwhile, the second hardest-hit state in the U.S., Florida, on Monday logged 2,678 new confirmed coronavirus cases, marking the lowest daily increase in the state for two months.

The news came after Florida became a hotspot of COVID-19 outbreaks two months earlier. Aside from a decline in daily new cases, there was also a smaller number of test results received.

As of Monday, Florida has logged a total of 576,094 confirmed coronavirus cases and 9,539 deaths.
