While it remains to be seen what the future holds for them, their current situation suggests their relationship is tainted forever. In a recent interview with Deadline, Brown talked about the particular subject and explained how Randall and Kevin's story will be explored moving forward.
The actor said Randall and Kevin's relationship has been complicated since the beginning and they'll continue like a "yo-yo." They may put aside their differences because of other things, but they will continue to be odd with one another in This Is Us season 5.
A lot of things happened to them in the previous installment. They've said hurtful words towards each other, which further fuelled their on-going feud. The upcoming season won't premiere with everyone being peaceful and getting along. There are complications because of what happened.
But, aside from the personal stories of each character, This Is Us season 5 will explore the current health crisis, as well. In a recent Twitter post, executive producer Dan Fogelman confirmed there are plans to address the pandemic as the writers decided to "attack things head on."
Also, the executive producer revealed that the plans to address the global health crisis won't impact how the story is going to conclude. So, even though some things change in the immediate future, the long-term goals of the series remain the same.
In addition, the writers won't be rewriting any of the flash-forward scenes or any scripts that are already brought to the table. But, what's challenging here is that the series follows a certain timeline, which means some set points might be hit along the way.
Meanwhile, Fogelman, also, noted he's not sure when This Is Us season 5 could begin production and when new episodes could air. There were plans for the series to start filming in September, leading to a potential November release. But, this is just a tentative plan and nothing is officially confirmed at the moment.
