Lucifer season 5 is dropping its first eight episodes this Friday on Netflix. One of the most anticipated events in the new installment is the reunion of Tom Ellis' titular character and Lauren German's Chloe Decker. The two have spent some time apart so it's exciting to see what it looks like once they reunited.

In a recent interview with TV Guide, Ellis and German discussed Lucifer and Chloe's precious romance, and what's next for them in Lucifer season 5. Ellis explained that their characters are poles apart "celestially and geographically" at the start of the new installment.

Eventually, the two will get back together but everything won't be easy for them, particularly with the arrival of Lucifer's twin brother, Michael, also played by Ellis. The actor explained that nothing is simple given that a lot of celestial threats are looming around them.

German, on the other hand, said her character is still dealing with the events that happened in season 4 finale. The final moments saw Chloe confessing her love for Lucifer, but the latter chose to leave her and went back to Hell to reclaim his throne.

German described the scene as "pretty brutal." Chloe built so many walls up, but when she finally opens up and tells Lucifer she loves him, he chose to leave her. Ellis added that there's something in that scene that didn't happen, which fuelled Lucifer season 5.

The titular character didn't reciprocate what Chloe said, but it's clear that he has feelings for her, as well. While she's heartbroken and feels a little bit rejected, German said her charter is smart enough and she understands why Lucifer has to go.

Chloe and Lucifer's partnership is one of the most interesting parts of the series. The two have been through a lot already, but they always manage to get through all of these. It's interesting to see what's coming for them in Lucifer season 5, especially with the arrival of Michael, who wanted to take his twin brother's life on Earth.

Meanwhile, the current installment still has a few remaining episodes that haven't been filmed. Production was forced to shut down in March because of the global health crisis. There's no official time frame when everything could resume. But, if filming starts again by the end of the year, the second half might be released at some point in 2021.

The first half of Lucifer season 5 arrives on Friday, Aug. 21, on Netflix.
