Prince Harry is, currently, making a fresh start in the U.S. with Meghan Markle and their son Archie. Even though Queen Elizabeth has allowed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to step down from their senior royal roles, the younger son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana is still in the line of succession to the British throne.

Prince Charles is the heir apparent, while Prince William is the second in line to the throne. Prince Harry used to be third in the line of succession, but the birth of his older brother’s children pushed him to sixth place.

That being said, it is unlikely for Prince Harry to become the future king of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms. However, a report revealed that the Duke of Sussex can take the throne over from Prince William if a particular event will happen.

“Prince Harry would likely have to step into the role under the Regency Acts of 1937 and 1953. They stipulate if the reigning king dies and leaves an heir under the age of 18, they can ascend to the throne, but with an overseeing regent, which if Prince William died would be Prince Harry,” the report read.

A lot of people may think that the Royal Family members are fighting over the crown, but Prince Harry shared with Newsweek Magazine in 2017 that “no one” actually truly wants the position. The Duke of Sussex, then, added: “We will carry out our duties at the right time.”

The pressure of the crown seemed to affect Prince William when he was younger. Knowing that he will soon be the future King of England, he, reportedly, told Princess Diana that he had no desire to take the role one day.

While Prince William is embracing his future role these days, it wasn’t the case before at all. Journalist Jeremy Paxman previously claimed that the Duke of Cambridge told his mother Princess Diana that he didn’t want to be king. He would even suggest that Prince Harry should take the role.

As a young boy, Prince William may have seen his future role as something that he couldn’t handle. Even though Princess Diana tried to give him and Prince Harry normal childhood experiences, their lives as members of the Royal family are certainly far from being average.

Fast forward to today, Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton are two of the most popular and well-loved members of the Royal family. Even though the Duke of Cambridge wasn’t so keen on becoming King when he was younger, he’s fitting the role more and more each day.
