Meghan Markle had been a constant target of trolls ever since she married Prince Harry in 2018. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex even decided to quit their roles, in a last-ditch effort to live a more peaceful life.

Despite their withdrawal, Meghan Markle still receives a lot of unnecessary criticisms, and she’s speaking out about it in her recent virtual appearance. The Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry spoke about how online networks can “propel” trolling during their engagement with the young leaders from the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.

Meghan Markle said that “everyone's mental and emotional wellbeing is perhaps more fragile than ever before.” She noted that people are going online more now to get connected with others since the coronavirus pandemic led to the absence of human interaction.

The Duchess of Sussex pointed out that one of the main reasons why people go online more during the outbreak is to “feel community.” However, the negativity floating around the World Wide Web is very toxic.

"When you look at what these platforms are capable of with that reach, and what that propels in terms of trolling. You can either train people to be cruel, or you can train people to be kind. It really is that simple,“ she said.

Aside from online trolls, Meghan Markle, also, couldn’t catch a break from her critics. After she and Prince Harry completed their South African tour last year, the success of their trip was overshadowed by the Duke of Sussex’s lengthy online rant. While the royals normally ignore the British tabloids, they finally got on his nerves and decided to do something about it.

Prince Hary didn’t ask any advice from the senior royals and advisers and wrote the letter himself. He was so upset with how the media treated Meghan Markle that he sued a couple of publications.

Unfortunately, British tabloids have no mercy on celebrities and royals, so his statement possibly didn’t affect them as much as the prince hoped. The media is a very competitive world. The juicier the headline and content, the more audience they’ll get.

Earlier this year, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shocked the world when they announced their withdrawal from their senior royal life. Two months later, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, officially, stepped down from their roles and relocated to the U.S. with their son Archie.
