WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for The Chi season 3 finale. Read at your own risk.

At the moment, Showtime hasn't officially renewed or canceled The Chi season 4. The network may announce the status of the series in the coming weeks or months, considering that the third installment has just, recently, concluded.

Despite the lack of renewal announcement, many were optimistic The Chi season 4 will be renewed. In terms of ratings, CarterMatt noted season 3 averaged more than 400,000 live television viewers each week, which slightly increased compared to the second installment.

This is an encouraging sign, given that it's unusual for DVR/streaming to see a series improve in television ratings. Since Showtime does not release all of its streaming viewership, there's a question as to how the series is performing digitally.

Meanwhile, series creator Lena Waithe told Chicago Tribune back in July that she's confident there'll be another season of the show. She further teased that some "known Chicagoans" have hit her and asked her what they have to do to be on the series.

It's also likely The Chi season 4 will be renewed rather than being canceled, especially with what happened in the season 3 finale. For instance, Emmett (Jacob Latimore) and Tiff (Hannaha Hall) held their wedding, but there's uncertainty regarding Emmett and Dom's (La La Anthony) reconciliation.

Also, the episode saw Keisha (Birgundi Baker) doing her best to find herself again. She's been through a lot this season and the kidnapping incident has completely changed who she is. The character deserves peace after everything she's been through, something that will be explored moving forward.

Even though there's no massive cliffhanger in season 3 finale, the episode hints new beginnings moving forward. Reportedly, The Chi season 4 will see grown-up Kevin (Alex Hibbert), Papa (Shamon Brown), as well as Jake (Michael Epps).

Ronnie (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine) won't be in the new installment, as well, as the character died even before the season 3 finale. That only means there will be a need to find someone similar to the character. Perhaps, a new character could arrive to further shake up the story.

In the event Showtime officially renewed The Chi season 4, we can't expect the series coming back on the network anytime soon. Cast and crew won't be able to start working immediately because of the current global health crisis. Hence, the new installment may premiere at some point in 2021.
