Lucifer season 5 dropped its first eight episodes last Friday on Netflix. There are still eight episodes left this season, but there's no indication as to when the second part will be released. The series hasn't resumed filming at the moment so there are uncertainties when it could return.

Lucifer season 5 was close to wrapping when the global health crisis hits the globe. The series wasn't able to finish the entire production, leaving a lot of questions as to when everything could start again. For now, cast and crew need to wait until the situation goes back to normal or at least gets a little bit better.

The safety of everyone on set remains to be the top priority of the series at the moment. They need to create a safe production environment first before allowing everyone to start with everything again. The cameras aren't rolling as of yet and there are other things that should be done.

But, it seems like there isn't too much left this season that needed to be shot and some works are seemingly done already. In an interview with Collider, showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson discussed what's left in the second part of Lucifer season 5.

Modrovich revealed that they've got a little more than half of the final episode. That only means they are close to finishing the remaining episodes this season. When cast and crew resume working, only a few things will be polished before wrapping up the season.

Henderson, on the other hand, said they had originally planned to split the current installment. He noted that it's a blessing since it allowed them to release the first part and buy some time as they race to this finish shoot the second part.

Modrovich further added they've planned the current season to be like this. He explained that they've built a cliffhanger in episode 8 because they know they're going to split Lucifer season 5. Even without the pandemic, the new installment was likely meant to have two parts.

As for what viewers can expect in the second half, Henderson teased the musical episode is there, which is written by Modrovich. The majority of works behind the scene are seemingly done, but there's still a question when filming could resume again.

Meanwhile, Lucifer season 5 proved to be a huge hit on Netflix in the United States. Following its release on Aug. 21, the series positioned at number 1 in the country on the streaming platform. This is a good sign as it validates the decision to make the season a full 16-episode and order the sixth and final installment.
