MasterChef Junior season 8 is slated to premiere this coming fall on Fox. The reality cooking competition hasn't encountered any setback since the new installment has been filmed. Since it's been off the air for more than a year, it only makes sense the network would release it.
However, it looks like fans need to wait for a while before seeing MasterChef Junior season 8 on the small screen. Originally, it was set to air after new episodes of The Masked Singer season 4. But, that won't happen anymore since Fox decided to move in a different direction.
Instead of releasing MasterChef Junior season 8, the network opted to launch I Can See Your Voice hosted by Ken Jeong. It will be airing following the singing competition, giving Jeong back-to-back shows. Both programs are in production right now and should be ready in the fall.
Unlike The Masked Singer, I Can See Your Voice doesn't involve actual singing until the reveal. One contestant will have a chance to win a $100,000 prize every week. The twist is that he or she should spot the difference between the good and bad singers without hearing them sing a note.
The celebrity detectives will help the contestants navigate through rounds of lip sync challenges, true-or-false evidence, as well as comedic hidden clues. Fox chose to launch this latest mystery entertainment contest rather than proceeding with its original plan to release the cooking competition.
I Can See Your Voice is produced by Fox Alternative Entertainment with Jeong, Craig Plestis, and James McKinlay as executive producers. In addition to Jeong, the program includes Adrienne Bailon-Houghton and Cheryl Hines as part of the rotating panel of celebrity detectives.
Meanwhile, one of the reasons why Fox likely pushed back the premiere of MasterChef Junior season 8 is to use it as a utility player moving forward. Since most of its shows aren't back in production at the moment, the network may want the cooking competition to fill some of the missing programs. After all, the program can air at any given time and there's no real rush to release it anytime soon.
CarterMatt noted that MasterChef Junior season 8 could arrive at some point next summer. Yet, since filming is done and the episodes are ready, we could expect it to arrive at an earlier date. Perhaps, Fox may decide to release it either late 2020 or early 2021.
