BLACKPINK destroyed Kpop girl group viewing records with their "Ice Cream" collaboration with Selena Gomez. The YG girl group amassed 100 million views 40 hours after the release of the music video.
According to Koreaboo, "Ice Cream" reached 100 million views in 40 hours and 52 minutes. The record comes only second to BLACKPINK's achievement for "How You Like That," which reached 100 million views in just 32 hours.
Soompi also reported that BLACKPINK quickly smashed the record for the fastest Korean girl group MV to reach 10 million views on YouTube when they reached the milestone just three hours.
"Ice Cream" was generally well-received by fans who celebrated BLACKPINK's collaboration with American pop star Selena Gomez. However, MV also received its fair share of criticism.
BLACKPINK's choreographer was criticized over the weekend for "recycling" the moves of Red Velvet's "Ice Cream Cake," which was released in 2015. Because of the similar dance steps, fans also started comparing the two songs to each other.
BLACKPINK's lyricist also drew flak for disrespecting Moses by using the prophet in a sexual context for Lisa's rap for "Ice Cream."
Meanwhile, a feature by Elle highlighted why "Ice Cream" was the song of the summer. It focused on the meaning of the song, which told the story of a woman who knew her worth and would not settle for anything less. The song was co-written by the powerhouse team of Ariana Grande and Victoria Monet, Selena Gomez, YG's Teddy Park, Bekuh, and BOOM. The song was produced by "7 Rings" and "Thank U, Next" producer Tommy Brown and Steve Franks.
BLACKPINK's epic comeback year could bring in even more fantastic collaborations after fans discovered an easter egg in one of YG's teasers for BLACKPINK's first full album.
According to a report by Koreaboo, YG may have intentionally leaked the collaboration to fans when they dropped information for BLACKPINK: The Album's pre-order.
The label posted images of the poster, photo cards, stickers, as well as a picture of the CD. Because the CD had the track list printed on its corners, YG blurred the words to keep the suspense.
However, upon closer inspection, fans noticed that one part of the CD seemed to have been left unblurred by YG. BLINKs made out Cardi B.'s name from the small portion of the image. Based on the blurred photo, the title could be "Bet You Wanna."
BLACKPINK: The Album will be released on October 2.
