Adele faced backlash over a photo of her that she shared online in celebration of the Notting Hill Carnival. Some accused the "Hello" singer of cultural appropriation while others defended Adele.

The British pop superstar once again showed off her slimmer body. Many were impressed by Adele's slimmer look, but her newly-shared photo somehow backfired on her.

The 32-year-old singer posted on Instagram on Sunday a photo of her as a tribute to the Notting Hill Carnival. The festival celebrates the Caribbean and Black culture in the UK.

It was, however, canceled this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, many shared their past Notting Hill Carnival photos online to commemorate the day and Adele was one of them.

In the snap, the Grammy winner was outfitted in tie-dye leggings, a Jamaican flag bikini top and a chunky gold necklace. She also had Bantu knots, a traditional African hairstyle, which she adorned with bright yellow feathers behind her head.

In the photo caption, Adele expressed how happy she was to celebrate the event. She also added the UK and Jamaican flags at the end of her message.

The "Rolling in the Deep" singer, however, came under fire for the photo. Some accused her of cultural appropriation for wearing a Jamaican flag bikini top and Bantu knots hairstyle.

One of her 38.6 million followers on IG said black women often experienced discrimination for having cultural hairstyles like Bantu knots, while white people who wear them get a free pass. The fan said it's upsetting that a white woman can do this hairstyle without being mock and praised for it instead.

Others, on the other hand, took offense with Adele's Jamaican flag-themed bikini top. One upset fan said it's unnecessary. Another said she appreciated the love of Jamaican culture but the Bantu knots and the Jamaican flag bikini were too much. Others begged the singer to delete the photograph.

However, some fans defended the songstress. One fan commended that what Adele did was "cultural appreciation" and not cultural appropriation. The "Rolling in the Deep" singer hasn't commented on the backlash yet.

After taking a break from the spotlight, Adele grabbed headlines recently when she showed off her dramatic body transformation on her birthday in May. Many praised the singer for taking care of herself following her split from her husband, Simon Konecki, in September 2019.

Adele also stunned everyone when she took to social media earlier this month to support her friend Beyonce on the release of her album, Black Is King. The "Skyfall" singer posed for a snap below her TV while wearing a matching outfit with Beyonce.
