Meghan Markle's mother, Doria Ragland, is, now, a teacher at Santa Monica College. The 63-year-old holds classes on jewelry making at the public school, which is about an hour's drive from her daughter and royal son-in-law's new home in California.

According to the school's official site, Ragland has at least seven different kinds of crafts classes. Her qualifications as a jewelry maker include becoming a participant in "the finest art shows" in America as a local artist for the last 10 years. She, also, loves handmade jewelry and teaching her craft to students.

Ragland, previously, worked in Culver City as a social worker at the Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services. In 2017, the Duchess of Sussex wrote about her mother's work for the geriatric community. In a feature on Glamour, Meghan said that her mother's "life-long sensitivity to nurturing and caregiving" made a profound impact on her as she was growing up.

Meghan's mom, also, worked as a yoga instructor in Los Angeles. The Duchess of Sussex and her mom started doing yoga before mommy-and-me yoga was a trend. The royal was only seven when she did her physical routines with Ragland, whom her daughter described as a "free spirit."

Meanwhile, sources said that Prince Harry and Meghan are turning their guest house in their new Montecito mansion as Ragland's house. She won't, however, give up her home in Los Angeles and will, instead, split her time between L.A. and Montecito, especially when the Sussex pair needs someone to watch over their son, Archie.

Sources said this space at the Sussex property will be Ragland's "granny annex." The grandmother is, apparently, used to being independent and wouldn't want to encroach on her daughter's family.

Meghan is very close to her mother and it, reportedly, broke her heart when the paparazzi invaded Ragland's privacy and took unflattering photos of her. In the biography, Finding Freedom, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand recounted that the tabloids made it appear that Ragland was struggling in Los Angeles, while her daughter lived the royal life in abroad as she dated Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex kept quiet over the malicious reports about her mother. But, her sadness, apparently, worried Prince Harry, who feared Meghan might break up with him because the royal spotlight was too much to bear.

In November 2016, Prince Harry was forced to issue a rare statement confirming his relationship with Meghan. He asked the press to "pause and reflect" on their reports before it causes further damage.
