Some Middle Eastern countries have been experiencing a slight surge in daily new coronavirus cases, even as the region is not among the hardest-hit in the world.

Jordan Hits Record High in Daily Cases

On Sunday, Jordan reported 73 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, marking the highest number of daily cases logged by the country since the pandemic started.

Jordan's spike in daily new infections started around 10 days ago, prompting the government to implement a stricter overnight curfew to hopefully curb the surge in cases.

Instead of implementing a strict lockdown as was the case earlier this year, Prime Minister Omar al Razzaz instead reiterated that the government will lean on isolating certain districts and areas with a high number of transmissions.

As of Sunday, Jordan has logged a total of 1,966 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths.

Oman Adds Over 500 New Cases

In Oman, there were 539 new confirmed coronavirus cases on Sunday, bringing the national infection toll to 85,544.

While Oman has had thousands of confirmed COVID-19 infections, the country is also recognized for its high rate of recoveries. Since the pandemic started, the country has seen a total of 80,459 recovered patients.

With 27 new fatalities linked to the virus, the Omani Health Ministry said the country's death toll has reached 677.

Over 400 New Cases in Kuwait

Kuwait's health ministry on Sunday reported 412 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing the national infection toll to 84,636.

Over the past 24 hours, over 2,490 new coronavirus tests were carried out in the country. There are still 7,456 active cases, but the recovery toll has reached 76,650 as of Sunday.

Kuwait has been preparing for the second wave of coronavirus cases, as the economy reopens and businesses are gradually allowed to restart operations.

Israel Cabinet OKs 'Traffic Light' Anti-Coronavirus Plan

The Israeli cabinet that manages the country's coronavirus battle on Sunday approved a "traffic light" plan that should help the authorities handle the crisis better.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Health and the Prime Minister's Office, it was revealed that anti-coronavirus measures will be based on four levels: red, orange, yellow, and green.

The plan will measure the extent of morbidity in towns across the country. Red areas are those with an average grade above 7.5, orange areas are those graded between 6 and 7.5, yellow areas are those with a grade between 4.5 and 6, and areas with grades lower than 4.5 will be green.

As of Sunday, Israel has logged a total of 114,020 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 919 deaths.

Iran Logs Three-Month Low in Daily Cases

Meanwhile, Iran logged a record-low of 1,754 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, marking the first time in three months that the country has seen a significant decrease in daily infections.

Official figures from the government revealed that 373,570 people have contracted the novel coronavirus in Iran, while 21,462 people have succumbed to the disease.

Some health analysts previously said the actual number of people infected with COVID-19 in Iran may far surpass the official tally.
