If not for the coronavirus pandemic, fans may have finally met Ariana Grande's boyfriend. It was revealed that Dalton Gomez accompanied Grande during the recording of her "Rain On Me" performance with Lady Gaga for the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards.

Grande did not attend this year's MTV VMAs in New York but she did share on Instagram her supposed outfit for the red carpet. Many expected that if the show was held traditionally, Ariana wouldn't miss it and she most likely bring Gomez at the show.

Instead, she pre-taped her performance with Lady Gaga and shared to her fans some of their behind the scenes photos. Included in the series of photos that the "7 Rings" singer posted on IG was a picture of her and Gomez holding hands while leaving the venue together after she taped her performance with Gaga. According to Page Six, Gaga and Ari's "Rain On Me" performance was pre-taped in Los Angeles.

Ariana and Dalton's almost red carpet debut came a few weeks after the "thank u, next" singer gave Gomez a sweet tribute on his birthday. She, also, shared several photos of her and Dalton while quarantining together.

The couple was first rumored dating earlier this year. They have been spending time together since the COVID-19 lockdown started in March.

Grande and the Los Angeles-based real estate agent have been keeping their relationship private. Ariana confirmed their relationship when Dalton had a brief appearance in his girlfriend and Justin Bieber's "Stuck With U" music video on May 8. Grande gave Gomez his first proper shoutout on Instagram on May 26.

Meanwhile, Ariana hit the 2020 MTV VMAs red carpet from home. She posted pictures of her in navy blue leather long sleeves minidress as she greeted her followers "Happy VMA day."

Ariana, also, changed her usual go-to thigh-high boots for a pair of a Spice Girls-esque white platform heels. Grande was not on her usual long ponytail. Instead, her hair was styled in ombré Baby Spice-like pigtails.

Grande and Lady Gaga have the most nominations in this year's VMAs with nine apiece including Video of the Year with their single "Rain on Me." She and Gaga won Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, and Best Cinematography for their collaboration track.

They were also up for Best Pop Song, Best Video Effects, and Best Choreography for the song but the awards went to other artists. Ariana and Justin Bieber were, also, nominated for Best Collaboration and Best Music Video from Home for their song "Stuck With U" and won the latter.
