The Good Doctor season 4 has finally started filming in Vancouver. The series has encountered several production setbacks, with testing issues being one of the biggest. The good news is that the cast and crew are, officially, back to work now.
Filming of The Good Doctor season 4 hasn't kicked off earlier due to the current global health crisis. The series was planning to start production in mid-August but was halted due to concerns regarding COVID-19 testing of cast and crew.
At the time, the fourth installment is in pre-production and preparing to start everything up for filming. Then, a spokesperson from Sony Pictures made it clear that they're working to resolve the testing issues with the British Columbia Council.
The good thing is that the series was able to deal with this particular issue. Since filming officially begins, we could expect The Good Doctor season 4 premiering later this fall on ABC. CarterMatt noted the new season could arrive sometime in November.
Once the series returns to the small screen, we could see some timely stories being explored -- particularly the real-life health crisis. Previously, TVLine reported that the fourth installment premieres with a two-part episode focusing on the pandemic.
The medical drama isn't a stranger when it comes to this storyline since a localized outbreak and a deadly virus have been featured back in season 2. Now, the new season might be focusing on the pandemic story with some individual cases in between.
As for what else is coming in The Good Doctor season 4, executive producer David Shore revealed, in March, that the fourth installment sees Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) in a supervisory role as he enters his fourth year of residency.
Moreover, Shaun will further explore blossoming romance with Lea (Paige Spara). However, their relationship might be short-lived as more complications are coming along the way. Even though they've been through a lot already, some conflicts could tear them apart.
Aside from this story, the new season sees Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) and Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) taking Dr. Claire (Antonia Thomas) and Dr. Morgan (Fiona Gubelmann) under their respective wings. Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee), on the other hand, deals with the distance between him and his family.
Also, The Good Doctor season 4 will continue to follow everyone dealing with the aftermath of Dr. Melendez's (Nicholas Gonzalez) death. He, tragically, died and this could cause long-time pain and trauma to Shaun and others.
