Britney Spears wants to oppose her father's move and make her conservatorship public to reveal their family secret. The Princess of Pop is now ready to defy Jamie Spears' effort to keep her legal battle confidential.
Britney tried to remove Jamie as her conservator in a court battle last month, but her request was denied. A judge ruled her dad would continuously oversee her conservatorship, which would extend until February next year.
As Jamie continues to control his daughter's financial and personal affair, TMZ reported he also wants to "seal parts of the case."
In the legal documents obtained by Page Six, Britney argued her kids, Sean, 14, and Jayden, 13, have no medical or sensitive issues. So, they don't need to be protected from future hearings. Their mom sees no reason to hide them from the public's eye.
She also acknowledged the online movement, #FreeBritney, which her fans launched as a call to end her conservatorship. Just like Britney, her followers also wanted her to regain control of her life, believing the singer-songwriter was forced to let her father decide for her.
According to Sky News, her fans regularly hold protests outside of Los Angeles Superior Court whenever she has hearings. They usually carry #FreeBritney posters as a sign of support.
Her lawyers attached an article about the movement and said she had been trying to "get some personal autonomy back in her life." They also said Britney "welcomes and appreciates" her fans' support.
In addition, there are conspiracy theories that Jamie "has been living off" Britney's money, an accusation he vehemently denies. The continuation of the court documents claimed that the scrutiny Jamie has been experiencing is a "reasonable and predictable" result of his effort to conceal the conservatorship procedure over the years.
Allegedly, this move is to minimize the amount of information that will be made available to the public. Jamie has successfully sealed legal filings from the public eye and held hearings in secret several times.
Ever since Britney had an infamous public breakdown in 2018, Jamie took control of her life. He had been appointed as her conservator, controlling her personal and financial decisions until today.
Amid the stealing claims, the Spears patriarch stressed he had reported "every nickel and dime spent to the court every year." However, when he suffered from a health issue last year, Britney's care manager, Jodi Montgomery, became her temporary conservator.
