The future of John Dutton in Yellowstone season 4 remains uncertain at the moment. He was shot in the season 3 finale, leaving his fate in question. But, despite that, he'll likely get through it given that Kevin Costner's character is the forefront of the Paramount Network series.

Yellowstone season 4 will pick up the events that happened at the end of the third installment. John was shot, but he'll probably survive this situation. After all, it would be hard for the series to continue without the lead character in the story.

Perhaps, we're going to see John seeking revenge once he gets better. He's not someone who will be fine with what other people did to him. He will fight back and do everything that he can to track down who's responsible for the attacks.

But, beyond the revenge, it's also interesting to see other elements for John's storyline in Yellowstone season 4. He is on the verge of losing the ranch so he needs to figure out how to save it before it's too late. Some people are after the land and are determined to bring him down at all costs.

Yet, John needs to find some sort of escape from all the chaos happening on the ranch. Tate (Brecken Merrill) could help him as he seemed to be the perfect person who could lead the ranch. He's still young but John could train his only grandchild how to manage the land in the future.

Moreover, it would be nice to see John finding a new friendship at this point in his life. Furthermore, it's interesting to see him embracing change while keeping the elements of himself that make him who he is. Lastly, we could see more of his backstory in the upcoming installment.

Meanwhile, Costner previously shared that the lengthy amount of time away from his family is the major challenge for him while filming Yellowstone season 4. The actor told Good Housekeeping that the current state of the world made it impossible for him to go back home whenever he wants to.

He noted that the real-life health crisis puts him away from home, given that they're exclusively filming in Montana. He goes home every moment that he can, but it would be difficult for him to do it this time. But, he won't be away from home for too long since the series isn't an all-year job as it only films 10 episodes each season.

Yellowstone season 4 premieres at some point in 2021 on Paramount Network.
