Prince George is now in his prep school years at Thomas's Battersea in London and he will apparently start using Mountbatten-Windsor as his surname, according to a new report.

The eldest son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, will be in Year 3 at the prestigious south London school. His official school records will reportedly reflect the family surname, which is also the same surname on his cousin Archie's birth certificate.

According to OK! Magazine, members of the royal family with names styled as HRH Prince or Princess, such as Prince George or Princess Charlotte, do not use a surname. But, if they do need one for whatever reason, they shall use "Mountbatten-Windsor."

However, when young George first attended Thomas's Battersea in 2017, he had a school bag with tag that showed he is called George Cambridge in class. Cambridge is the royal name the Queen bestowed to his father upon his marriage in 2011. When Prince William and Prince Harry attended schools, they were known as William and Harry Wales in class, after their dad, the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles.

The OK! report, however, did not clarify why George or his parents decided to switch his surname this year. However, his classmates apparently have their own name for the third in line to the British throne as George is simply known as "PG" among his friends. According to Vanity Fairno one fusses over the boy's royal status.

Meanwhile, Prince William is reportedly relieved that two of his kids are back to in-person classes. In a speech during a royal engagement Wednesday, the Duke of Cambridge said that every parent in London is most likely "breathing a sigh of relief" because the kids are safely with their teachers after months of homeschooling.

Prince William admitted in previous interviews that he realized how challenging it is to teach children as he and Kate were stuck guiding George and Charlotte for their online classes during the COVID-19 lockdown. He joked that he apparently forgot the things he learned in school, especially for Maths classes.

George and Charlotte had their first day at Thomas's Battersea on Monday, Sept. 7. Unlike last year, however, Kensington Palace has not released a photo of the children walking towards the school's front door. Sources said that there are no photo opportunities this time because of changes in the drop-off policy at the school due to the COVID-19 protocols.
