Apple will unveil the smallest member of its new iPhone line-up in October which is reportedly named the "iPhone 12 mini."

Apple is set to unveil its new iPhone 12 line-up this October. Prominent leaker "@L0vetodream" sent out a tweet on September 21 around 7:44 in the evening revealing that the latest entry-level iPhone with 5.4-inch screen size is called the "iPhone 12 mini."

The leaker also mentioned other iPhone 12 models, which appear to indicate these are the models that the Cupertino-based tech giant will release in October. In what appears to be a cryptic tweet, the famous leaker wrote "12mini, 12, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max." The leaker seems to point out that the iPhone model initially believed to be named "iPhone 12 Max" will only be known as just "iPhone 12." What caught the fancy of Apple fans, however, was the "iPhone 12 mini."

Apple fans cite several reasons why they would love to get their hands on the rumored "iPhone 12 mini" which the Cupertino giant will unveil in October. Some smartphone users are already complaining about the huge size of smartphones which they say is like carrying a giant slab in their pocket. They say packing all that computing power in a small device is good enough for them. Another consideration is its price, which is rumored to be $50 lower than regular iPhones.

As regards the rumored name "iPhone 12 mini," observers say Apple must come up with at least one fresh name for the lineup in time for its release in October. Since the tech giant has used the word "mini" in both the Mac computer and iPad lineups, as well as the iPod mini several years back, it is also fitting for the smallest member of its new iPhone 12 line-up.

Rumors also indicate that the larger iPhone versions, which are also set for release this October, will most likely keep their "Pro" and "Pro Max" names. These models were alleged to have display screens of between 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches. As for the "iPhone 12 mini," there are rumors it will have a 5.4-inch display screen. While Apple did not confirm the rumors, observers say whispered talks on details of products scheduled for launch tend to be mostly true.

The new iPhone 12 lineup, including the "iPhone 12 mini," is rumored to have 5G network support and is powered by Apple's first 5nm process chipset, the A14. While early benchmarks performed on the chipset shows incremental performance gains, it did show superior battery performance. The "iPhone 12 mini" and all other new iPhones in the lineup will also have OLED screens with a 60Hz refresh rate and feature smaller notches which allow for more icons to be displayed at the top.
