Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly planning their trip back to London in time for the Christmas holidays this year. The Sussex pair wants that their son, Archie Harrison, to spend the festive season with Queen Elizabeth.
A source revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are hoping to go home despite the likelihood of a quarantine once they arrive. Harry and Meghan are taking their decision one day at a time but the source implied that they are "eager" to return to the U.K. for the sake of Archie and Queen Elizabeth.
Apparently, the 16-month-old royal baby sees the Queen often with the help of technology. The source said that they have bonded over their frequent Zoom calls, as initiated by Harry, who is close to his grandmother.
In August, the Duke of Sussex said during a video chat with the Rugby Football League that he would have been back in the U.K. if not for the virus. Insiders said that the Harry had been upset when the Sussexes could not join the royal family for their traditional summer activities in Balmoral.
Prince Harry and Meghan were supposed to bring Archie to Balmoral for the first time last summer. Plans were made in March, before the couple had their last engagements as working royals. Queen Elizabeth invited them to visit Scotland but no one was prepared for COVID-19, which affected all travel plans.
The news of the Sussex couple's Christmas plans come as royal observers they will have a hard time returning to the royal fold after Harry and Meghan's recent TV appearance to talk about the U.S. elections. Royal commentator Camilla Tominey said that she doesn't see Harry and Meghan "rushing back" home after making their political statements as it goes against the royal family's protocols.
Critics said that it might be alright for Meghan to show her political colors and vote this November as an American. However, it isn't acceptable for Harry to be "poking his woke nose" on the U.S. elections as he is still a royal.
Harry is still the sixth in line to the British throne despite stepping back from his royal duties early this year. He is still known as the Duke of Sussex though Queen Elizabeth stripped him of his HRH (His Royal Highness) title.
Buckingham Palace issued no comments about Prince Harry and Meghan's TV appearance. Meanwhile, sources said that the Duke of Sussex has plans to stay longer in the U.K. in 2021 for the Invictus Games, the unveiling of his mother's statue in Kensington Palace and the Rugby World Cup.
