Apple's iOS 14 update brings Enhance Recording feature to the Voice Memo to improve your audio recordings.

The iOS 14 update brought along heaps of new features which Apple believes will further enrich user experience. While some of the new features like the Home Screen widget customization are quite well-known, other features such as the new Enhance Recording stays hidden within the Voice Memo app. Despite not having a fancy or elaborate improvement, the app is one that many people often use.

More than just improving the quality of your audio recording, the new Enhance Recording feature of the Voice Memo app also makes it possible for you to reduce background noise in all of your recordings. The new feature that Apple's iOS 14 update brought also helps you to minimize echoes that normally appear when you record in closed settings like when in small rooms.

Though there are several audio recording apps that users can download and install on their iPhones, Apple's iOS 14 update managed to raise the bar for all of them with the Voice Memo app's new Enhance Recording feature. Far from being just like a Dictaphone-type recorder, the new feature that the iOS 14 update brought elevated Voice Memo's status into a full audio application with its Enhance Recording.

According to Apple, Voice Memo's new Enhance Recording feature can improve, or at least try to improve, any type of audio you record using the app, or recorded files that are already in there. While the feature that the iOS 14 update brought to the Voice Memo app may not have the type of fine tuning functionalities that broadcast-quality apps bring, it will, at least make your next podcast sound a bit better.

To use the Enhance Recording feature in iOS 14, open the Voice Memo app and record a new audio or tap to choose an existing recording. At the bottom left of the file or recording entry, tap on the three dots or the ellipses icon, then tap Edit Recording from the displayed menu. Tap the magic wand icon found at the top left of the screen and when it is already highlighted, tap Done.

While performing the steps, except for the magic wand icon turning into blue color, you might notice that nothing else seems to happen. Tapping Done will just take you back to the window showing you the list of recordings. However, if you will tap on the Play icon of the recording entry that you edited in the Voice Memo app using iOS 14's new Enhance Recording feature, you will notice a big difference.

Where before you might hear some background noises or echoes when playing the audio file you recorded using the Voice Memo, it now sounds subdued and unnoticeable. What iOS 14's Enhance Recording feature does is use its Machine Learning system to try cutting out everything you do not want to hear and at the same time, keeping only those that you want. The feature is able to get rid of sounds like background noises, reverberation, and many more. Try following the steps described above and you will notice the improvement in the result.
