The Boys spin-off is happening at some point on Amazon Prime Video. Reportedly, the streaming service has given the project a thumbs-up. The flagship show's enormous success is one of the reasons why the series was push through.

In a new report via Deadline, The Boys spin-off is put on "fast-track development" at Amazon Prime Video following the huge success of the main series' second season. In fact, the premiere was the most-watched global launch ever for a series on the streaming service.

Reportedly, the first season had set a high viewership mark for the platform following its debut in the summer of 2019. But, the second season doubled the season 1 worldwide audience during its first two weeks, drawing millions of new viewers every week.

The viewership improved significantly compared to what was seen early on in the first season. This is a strong indication that the flagship show is performing well in each episode. It allows more people to get more into the series and watch it.

For now, there are only a few details about The Boys spin-off. But, based on the synopsis, it is set at the only college in America exclusively for young adult superheroes and it is being run by Vought International. The currently-untitled project is described as an "irreverent, R-rated series."

The show explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes. They put their sexual, physical, as well as moral boundaries to the test. They'll be competing for the best contracts in the best cities. It is a "part college show, part Hunger Games" -- which comes with the heart, satire, and raunch of The Boys.

It's interesting to see how the story of The Boys spin-off will move forward, given that it would likely follow different characters. In addition, it is different from what we've seen in the main show since it will focus more on the superhero college.

The project is written by executive producer Craig Rosenberg, who will be penning the pilot, as well. He also serves as the showrunner under his overall deal with Sony Pictures TV. The upcoming show is said to be in the works for a while now.

Meanwhile, the official release date of The Boys spin-off remains uncertain at the moment. Only a few details were known about the project. A lot of works are still needed to be done, including casting, finishing the script, as well as filming. It won't be arriving anytime soon on Amazon Prime Video.
