SWAT season 4 is in production since August and it is to return sometime in the fall. A lot of stories are coming here and some of these are based on what's happening in the real world at the moment. But, aside from that, Hondo's (Shemar Moore) past will be explored and we're going to see a younger version of him.

SWAT season 4 will dive back in the past and tell stories about the lives of the characters before. Since it involves a flashback, it only makes sense that the younger versions of the key characters will appear. We'll see them how they live their life before being part of the department.

According to a new report from TVLine, the new season kicks off with an episode flashing back to the 1992 Los Angeles riots. Originally, the plan was to feature this story at the end of season 3 to mark the 28th anniversary of the LA riots. Instead, it will be incorporated in the premiere of the latest installment.

Previously, executive producer Shawn Ryan told the aforementioned outlet that the flashback episode splits time between the present day and a teenage Hondo and his father during the LA riots. Also, the premiere picks up some storylines left in the season 3 finale, titled "Diablo."

Donald Dash will play the younger version of Moore once SWAT season 4 premieres. Hondo's father, on the other hand, will be played by Rico E. Anderson. We could expect a lot of interesting and emotional stories in this episode, especially since the theme reflects some current events.

The flashback to the 1992 LA riots carries a heavier weight considering what happened in the county over the past few months. Back in June, executive producers and writers announced that they'll do better to explore the themes of race, as well as and policing in minority communities.

Meanwhile, SWAT season 4 is one of the shows that first to go back in production amidst the global health crisis. The cast and crew are doing whatever they can to ensure the safety of everyone while working on set. All of them follow the health guidelines and measures implemented in Los Angeles.

The official release date of SWAT season 4 hasn't been revealed as of this writing. But, since filming has already started, there is a possibility it is arriving in the fall. Some speculated that the upcoming installment could premiere at some point in November on CBS.
